Ruckia Kuchiki
One of my favourite fictional characters of all time, being a big-time Manga fan, is a, 'Soul Reaper', (similar to the English inception, the 'Grim Reaper', but with a samurai sword, which literally translated means 'Death God'), who goes by the name of, Ruckia, from the manga and anime series, Bleach.
Introduced to the Japanese manga (comic) fans back in 2001, as a series within a male orientated comic called, 'JUMP', Bleach follows an anti-hero named, Ichigo Kurosaki, who is given, 'Soul Reaper' powers by Ruckia, during an encounter whilst she is fighting a lost soul, known as a Hollow, (one of the many antagonists of the series). Once the lead character and protagonist, Kurosaki's role changes when, Ichigo absorbs more of Kurosaki's power than she intended, turning him into the main Soul Reaper and forcing him to carry out a Reapers duties, which include escorting good souls to a parallel world, known as, 'Soul City,' whilst wiping out evil souls on the earth's plane. There are many journeys within the hundreds of weekly chapters.

School Uniforms
The high-school uniform plays an integral role in Japanese manga, anime and video games. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find this type of media in Japan without the presence of school uniforms. Although, in many other cultures it may be considered controversial, you have to take into consideration what the uniform actually signifies to the Japanese people. And culture to one side, the iconic school-uniforms present in such a successful media are so distinct and immediately recognisable it has proved to be sound business for the Japanese industry.

Samurai Swords
The samurai sword dates back as far as the late twelfth century, during the Kamakura era, (1192-1336) and was in its element by the late fourteenth century, during the Muromachi era, (1336-1573).
Worn by the Samauri class of Fuedal Japan, a military nobility, their original  purpose was to serve the Japanese aristocracy. However, by 1873 the hereditary class was abolished.
